Las Vegas is the American city commonly associated with gambling. Recently, the Oakland Raiders has applied to the NFL to relocate to Nevada, Las Vegas (Belson, 2017). The NFL is one of the leagues that has strongly been opposed to sports gambling for decades now. The fact that Oakland Raiders is attempting to relocate to Las Vegas, a city known for gambling may have great implications to the community as well as people living in Las Vegas. In fact, Oakland fans are already protesting the teams move to Las Vegas. The possible move has also been seen as linking the sport to gambling, something the NFL has been fighting for decades. Therefore, the NFL is likely to reject the clubs move to Las Vegas because it has been very wary of gambling and the potential influence it can have on the sport. Sports gambling is something that is very common in other sports and in Las Vegas many people depend on gambling for their livelihoods. Thus, having a team in Las Vegas and preventing sports betting on that team may raise tensions in the community
The solution to this crisis would be to find the team a new place that would still be good for business and be allowed by every stakeholder. The idea is to find an alternative larger market that could suite the team as well as the NFL. A business is always dependent on the customers. In this case, the team is supported by Fans. Most Oakland fans are in Norther and Southern California. Relocation should factor in the fan base so that the team can maintain business. Law makers and team owners can also meet and agree on terms that would keep the team in Oakland.
